Please note this training is over 4 sessions – you will need to attend all sessions to complete the course.

The Introduction to Gear Stress Analysis course is intended to give participants the confidence to implement ISO 6336 into their work for gear design and analysis.

During the course we cover the basics of the stress analysis method for contact fatigue (pitting) and bending fatigue, as well as investigating the aspects of the design which influence many of the major calculation factors from the method.

The course includes:

· A brief history of ISO 6336.

· A recap of relevant gear failure modes and geometry, and a reminder about calculating gear (tooth) loads.

· An overview of the science underpinning the stress analysis methods.

· Load modifying (K) factors.

· Contact (Z) and bending (Y) modifying factors.

· Considering multiple load cases (duty cycles).

· Permissible stresses and materials.

· Reviewing safety factors and calculation examples.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for all engineers involved in the design and analysis of gears but is particularly suited to those who may just be embarking into the world of gear design.

The course is also suitable for engineers involved in gear manufacturing or purchasing and who may wish to better understand the need for tight tolerances and high grade (and cost) materials.
